Description:So we’re an English couple that moved to Canada 6 years ago. We’ve never seen a wild bear here, so were really shocked when this happened as it’s pretty rare to see them just roaming the street (they mostly stay up high in the mountains). So it must have come down in search for food, typically mothers who are in search of food with newly born cubs.
The bear was a mother ‘black bear’ around 6ft tall, weighing around 350lbs.
We were leaving Cleveland Dam at around 11:30am (tourist attraction) which is in North Vancouver, Canada and were driving to Edgemont village for a coffee as shown in the attached image.
My wife then spotted the bear as we were driving on the side of the road, she was driving and paying attention to the road whilst i was browsing on my phone - so I was able to record really quick.
We didn’t want to stop as bears can obviously attack, however it looked more scared of us, with it scarpering off through the fence. We then continued driving and informed two guys at the bus stop around 20 meters down the road to get in the car, with a hungry bear being so close. It looked like that was a residence back garden, so maybe she found some food lying around or food in their trash cans/ bins. Possible ripped through their hot tub, as they like the smell of the foam which is inside hot tubs covers (very odd).
This also happened to our friends fence that lived a couple of blocks away, in the same neighbourhood on the same morning! She must have been really hungry!
